Occupational Specific Work Preparation

About this program

The Occupational Specific Work Preparation program is designed to teach you the skills that employers in your field have stated are necessary for job success. To do this we utilize Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC)’s Essential Skills Profile in conjunction with work simulation activities, while providing you with the tools to develop employer networks in your industry.

This program is for you if…

You are job seeking, new to the workforce, returning to the workforce after an extended absence, or you are currently employed but are seeking a different position.

How it works

Based on your occupational goal, an Essential Skills assessment is conducted to determine your skill development path.  Each job is different and Essential Skills requirements vary as a result.

  • Skill Development Path –  includes the following Essential Skills related to your employment: Reading Text, Document Use, Numeracy, Writing, Oral Communication, Working with Others, Continuous Learning, Thinking Skills and Computer Use
  • Workplace Simulation – You will participate in daily activities to practice skills valued by employers in your field.
  • Employer Networks – You will visit and engage in communication with local employers in order to establish a network to support and improve your employability prospects.

Timeline

There are five Essential Skills levels; our goal is to raise you one Essential Skills level in eight weeks.

Our specialized training programs can be customized to fit your schedule and timelines. Please contact your local Grade Learning campus for more information.
