Gold Medalist Paul Rosen Shares His Latest Win on Ontario Tour
For Immediate Release: January 3, 2010
TORONTO, ON: Paralympic Sledge Hockey Gold Medalist, Paul Rosen, is hitting the road to let the public know what it’s like to go back to school at 50. The three-time Paralympian, who has struggled with literacy for his entire life, recently went back to school at Grade Learning, Ontario’s largest full-service education provider. The goal: improving his elementary school level reading and writing. Today, just four months after starting class, Paul now reads at a high school level as he advanced four grade levels in his reading vocabulary and two grade levels in spelling.
To celebrate his success and inspire others, Rosen is embarking on a provincial tour to share his educational journey and tell his story about overcoming fear and realizing golden opportunities to audiences of adults, youth and children. His first stop is on January 6th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Barrie, located at 20 Fairview Road. Please RSVP to 705.739.6619 – space is limited.
“My mind is blown when I think back to what I’ve been able to accomplish in four months,” said Rosen. “I went from someone who hadn’t read a book in years to someone who has read several in a matter of months. Most importantly, I’ve got my confidence back and have quieted the voices from my past that had me believe I was an idiot.”
Since August, Rosen has been attending classes and completing homework, all the while letting the public have a front row seat. Rosen documented his trials and successes on the what’s next video blog (found at gradelearning.ca/blog) and at www.facebook.com/gradelearning.
“We celebrated small victories and continually challenged Paul, which helped him persevere,” said Michael Bateman, President and CEO, Grade Learning. “Paul has proved that ability and disability have not defined who he is or what he’s capable of achieving and we congratulate him on a job well done.”
