Your answers to the most frequently asked questions about Grade Math Programs…
What is Grade Math?
Grade Math is a supplemental education program for math. It is more than math tutoring – it’s a roadmap for math success. It was designed with a single purpose: to give children from Grade 1 to Grade 10 the basic skills to meet and exceed the real life expectations of the Ontario math curriculum, helping students to build confidence and self-esteem at the same time.
What is the right age to enroll my child in Grade Math?
Grade Math provides programming for children in Grades 1 to 10. We encourage parents to enroll their children in the program early in their school career, so that your child can begin developing the necessary skills to reach their full potential as soon as possible.
Is Grade Math an “enrichment program” or a “remedial program”?
Grade Math Programs can be tailored for each individual student and their unique set of needs. Whether your child needs an advanced program or needs help filling in skill gaps in order to work at grade level, Grade Math has a program that can help.
Does Grade Math work according to my child’s school program?
At Grade Math, we individualize each student’s program to reflect their current needs, which often means working on the same curriculum that is currently being worked on in class. Our teachers are willing to contact your child’s teacher in order to ensure that we are all working towards the same goals as an education team for your child.
How do you know where to begin with my child’s program?
Each and every Grade Math Program begins with a diagnostic academic assessment to determine your child’s current abilities and to identify areas of opportunity. Our Education Director will then provide you with the results of your child’s assessment and together, we will determine the best program plan for your child.
How soon will I be able to see results from the program?
We encourage parents to enrol their children for a minimum of three months before they expect to see tangible results. Some children progress very quickly once enrolled in the Grade Math Program, while others sometimes take a bit longer to begin to show progress. Education is a process of continuous improvement in skills. Many of our students chose to stay with Grade Math through Grade 10, recognizing that the effectiveness of the program is ongoing.
How is Grade Math different from other math tutoring programs?
Grade Math is different from other math programs in many ways; however, the most important difference is that Grade Math is based on the Ontario Ministry of Education math curriculum. That means that children are working towards the exact same expectations in the Grade Math Programs that are required of them in school. Parents can see a direct correlation between their child’s report card and the Grade Math curriculum. Grade Math Programs was designed by Ontario certified Bachelor of Education teachers to address the challenges children face with the stringent provincial math standards.
Why does the Grade Math system repeat material?
The repetition in the material reinforces and ensures that children fully understand and remember the skills that they have learned. It’s an important component of any education program.
What type of time commitment is required for the program?
Grade Math Programs is designed with busy schedules in mind! Our program is offered twice per week. Our core belief is that if a child dedicates 15 to 20 minutes each night to Grade Math work and attends our centre at least once per week, their skill level, understanding and ability to learn new concepts will dramatically improve. This will result in higher grades and increased self-esteem.
